That the tested genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1Peter 1:7 ESV
Last winter, in the middle of the Christmas season, my burdened heart bled with a desire to find my place in the world and navigate the difficult early adult years. Dashed expectations and hopes deferred taught me that more than my happiness and comfort, God loves to give me faith. I did not know His immense care for me until I walked through the painful fire of disappointment and broken dreams, which each played their part to purify my trust in His undying Love.
I traveled with a friend to Port Aransas, rising early enough to see the sunrise. A flash of light quivered above the waterline of the silent bay. Magnified by its own reflection, the orange hue stood alone in the still scene like the star that heralded Jesus’ birth. The light wasn’t alone for long and it grew, joined with a spectacular array of purples and yellows. Tears stood in my eyes as the celebration of hope danced on the south Texas horizon. God’s promises for me weren’t forgotten and my prayers would soon reap a joyful harvest.
Lord, give me faith this Christmas to see Your faithfulness in the midst of heartache.
